These terms govern your use of the Sherlock Forensics website, recon tool and professional services. By using our site or purchasing services you agree to be bound by these terms. Governed by British Columbia law.

Effective April 8, 2026

Terms and conditions of use

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Sherlock Forensics website at www.sherlockforensics.com and all services provided by Sherlock Forensics ("we", "us" or "our"). By accessing our website or purchasing our services you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use our website or services.

1. Website Use

The content on this website is provided for general informational purposes only. While we strive to keep information accurate and current, we make no guarantees or warranties of any kind regarding the completeness, accuracy or reliability of any content on this site. Any reliance you place on website content is at your own risk.

2. Reconnaissance Tool

Our free reconnaissance tool performs passive reconnaissance only. It queries publicly available data sources including DNS records, HTTP response headers and publicly accessible ports. The tool does not perform active exploitation, vulnerability scanning or any form of intrusive testing.

Results from the recon tool are provided on an as-is basis with no warranty of accuracy or completeness. The tool is not a substitute for a professional security assessment. We accept no liability for the findings displayed by the tool or for any actions you take based on those results. You agree to use the tool only against domains and IP addresses that you are authorized to investigate.

3. Purchase Terms and Authorization

When you purchase a service through our website, you enter into a legally binding authorization agreement. By completing a purchase you represent and warrant that:

  • You are authorized to request the service for the specified target systems
  • You have legal authority to authorize testing on the target systems
  • The testing scope is limited to the targets specified in your authorization agreement

Testing will not be performed on any systems outside the authorized scope. Unauthorized target testing is a violation of these Terms and may constitute a criminal offence.

All software purchases are final. No refunds. Free editions of every product are available for full evaluation before purchasing.

4. Software Products and Licensing

Sherlock Forensics desktop software products (including but not limited to PST Viewer, PDF Editor, USB Write Blocker, OCR Reader, Browser Viewer, Disk Imager, Android Acquirer, Universal Events Viewer, Hash Verifier, Metadata Inspector, Port Scanner, OST Viewer, MSG Viewer and EML Viewer) are subject to the following terms:

  • License grant. Upon purchase you receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the software on the number of machines specified by your purchased license tier. You may not sublicense, rent, lease or distribute the software to third parties.
  • No refunds. All software sales are final. No refunds will be issued for any reason. Free versions of every product are available for evaluation before purchase. By purchasing, you acknowledge that you have had the opportunity to evaluate the free version and are satisfied with the product.
  • AS-IS delivery. Software is provided as-is and as-available. Sherlock Forensics makes no warranty that the software will be compatible with every file, system, configuration or operating environment. We do not warrant that the software will be error-free or uninterrupted.
  • No liability for data. Sherlock Forensics is not liable for any data loss, data corruption, data modification or system damage resulting from use of the software. While our software is designed to open files in read-only mode, we make no guarantee against defects. You are responsible for maintaining backups of your data.
  • Activation and seats. License keys are tied to a specific number of machine activations as defined by your purchased tier. Exceeding the seat limit requires purchase of additional licenses. You may release a seat from one machine and activate on another using the built-in seat release function.
  • Updates. Free updates are provided at our discretion. We are not obligated to provide updates, new features, bug fixes or backward compatibility. We may discontinue support for any product version at any time.
  • Reverse engineering. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the software. You may not modify, adapt or create derivative works based on the software.
  • Termination. We may revoke your license and deactivate your license key if you violate any of these Terms. Upon termination you must destroy all copies of the software in your possession.

5. Refund Policy

All sales are final. No refunds will be issued for software purchases or service engagements that have begun. Free versions of all software products are available for evaluation before purchase.

6. Payment

All payments are processed by Stripe in Canadian Dollars (CAD). Prices listed on our website are subject to change without prior notice. The price at the time of your purchase will be honoured for that transaction.

7. Intellectual Property

Forensic reports delivered as part of a paid engagement are licensed to the purchasing client for their use but remain our intellectual property. You may not reproduce, distribute or create derivative works from our content without prior written consent.

8. Limitation of Liability

All services and software products are provided on an as-is and as-available basis. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Sherlock Forensics disclaims all warranties whether express, implied or statutory. We do not warrant that our services or software products will be uninterrupted, error-free or that our findings will be exhaustive.

In no event shall our total liability to you for any claim arising from or related to our services or software products exceed the amount you paid for the specific service engagement or software license giving rise to the claim. We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, loss of business or damage to systems.
